LANDSCAPE ECPHRASIS IN M. Y. LERMONTOV’S CREATIVE WORK

Abstract. The article analyses M. Y. Lermontov’s ecphrasis, which is not verbal representation of fine art works but creation of picturesque landscapes by means of the language. It is shown that the poet’s perception of nature mostly involves "reading" a forming image and the related technique of framing, which allows representing a landscape as a dynamic picture. The comparative analysis of M. Y. Lermontov’s and A. G. Venetsianov’s artistic systems leads to the conclusion that the poet’s verbal landscapes are created according to the principles of plein air painting focused on transferring light effects.
