Abstract. The article examines the Russian translations of R. Frost’s gnomic poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", which is of key importance for understanding the author’s poetics. More than ten translation versions are analysed. The researchers tackle a well-known problem - a translator’s ability to reconstruct formal and meaningful peculiarities of the original text. A comparative analysis allows concluding that typical translation failures include abandoning the vocabulary and metre of the original text.
