Abstract. In this article, an attempt to consider the problem of the indiscriminate use of English vocabulary in the contemporary Russian society and to determine its functions and status in the modern Russian language is made. The authors pose the following questions: whether to consider all the Anglicisms that occur in the everyday life of the Russian person borrowed vocabulary, and whether all the used Anglicisms are so necessary for the Russian language. On the basis of the analysis of 100 English lexemes, two groups of words have been singled out, and only one group consisting of 32 units can claim the status of borrowed vocabulary, while Anglicisms from another group are not essential for the Russian language.
