Abstract. The article is devoted to the relevant nowadays problem of authorities’ influence on audience consciousness by means of press. Special attention is paid to the problem of determining the content of the concept "discourse" at the interdisciplinary level: from the viewpoint of linguistics, psycholinguistics, and psychology. The study focuses on linguistic means to influence the recipient typical of the Russian, French and English periodicals. The examples from different languages clearly indicate the similarity of linguistic means used to realize the function of influence.
