ON THE COGNITIVE ROLE OF PAROEMIAS IN THE CHINESE MEDIA IN ENGLISH

Abstract. The article is devoted to the cognitive aspect of the functioning of paroemias in the Chinese media, produced in English. Since the Chinese paroemias represent the national mentality of China, special attention is paid to the goals of citing the Chinese paroemias in the mass media discourse, the main concepts, values, speech strategies implemented through this citation. The information obtained during the analysis confirms that the paroemias are used purposefully, both to represent the values of the Celestial Empire, and to express China’s attitude to international events.
