Abstract. The article analyzes the Russian interpretations of the poem "The Hunting of the Snark" by L. Carroll from the position of linguo-stylistics. Particular attention is paid to the translation of the system of poem characters’ names, which is based on the principle of anaphora. Conclusions are made that decompression, which most interpreters use, is directly related to the phenomena of fictionality and discomfort of a metatext. This, in turn, can lead to the violation of its stylistic integrity with respect to Carroll’s primary source.
