COMMUNICATIVE TACTICS OF REFUSAL TO ANSWER AND CONVERSATIONAL MOVES OF ITS IMPLEMENTATION

Abstract. The article discusses the communicative tactics of refusal to answer and the conversational moves that are used by a speaker to implement this communicative tactics. Refusal to answer is refusal of one of the communicants to cooperate: the addressee of the question signals directly his/her unwillingness to provide the necessary information or makes it clear indirectly. Refusal indicates the communicative failure of the questioner, who does not achieve his/her illocutionary goal. The author analyses various ways of expressing explicit - direct and indirect - and implicit refusal.
