Abstract. The article is devoted to studying semantics and frequency of mythological creatures’ names of Germanic origin in the English language. The author examines semantic meanings of five lexemes of Germanic origin nominating mythical creatures, analyzes normative frequency of these lexemes in four corpuses and five genre sub-corpuses of the English language. The semantic meanings of lexemes are identified; the lexemes are ranked according to polysemy-monosemy feature and the frequency in the modern English language. The paper considers the possible interrelations between the semantic, frequency and discursive characteristics of mytho-lexemes under analysis.
