OBSCENITIES OF NON-SEXUAL NATURE IN W. SHAKESPEARE’S TRAGEDIES: PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATING INTO RUSSIAN

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of translating into Russian the word-play using vulgarisms in W. Shakespeare’s tragedies. The paper describes three basic types of vulgarisms in dramatist’s works: vulgarisms of non-sexual, homosexual and sexual nature. The researcher shows the different ways to transfer the word-play in the translation, provides comparative analysis of English and Russian obscenities of non-sexual nature and identifies the basic mechanisms to transfer author’s intention in the Russian translations.
