SPECIFIC FEATURES OF SCIENTIFIC-TECHNICAL TRANSLATION (BY THE EXAMPLE OF PATENT TRANSLATIONS)

Abstract. The article analyzes genre affiliation of a patent text. Being a technical description of an invention patent is also a document certifying the right on invention, i.e. belongs simultaneously to scientific-technical and official styles. The author identifies the structural-compositional and lexical-grammatical peculiarities of a patent, and related translation problems. Patents are characterized by stereotypes, strict compositional arrangement, and wide use of clich?s, archaisms and paralinguistic means.
