ON THE SLOVAK SLANG TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH (BY THE MATERIAL OF PETER PI??ANEK’S SATIRICAL NOVEL "RIVERS OF BABYLON" AND ITS TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH)

Abstract. The article by the material of the Slovak satirical novel by P. Pi??anek "Rivers of Babylon" (1991) and its English translation considers the peculiarities of the Slovak slang translation into English. The paper gives the definition of the notion "slang" in the Slovak linguistic tradition and its classification. The author reveals the tendencies to reduce the expressiveness of the original in the translation, and marks the use of substitution as the main method of the Slovak slang translation.
