COMMUNICATIVE AND PRAGMATIC CHARACTERISTICS OF INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES IN THE ENGLISH POLITICAL SPEECH

Abstract. The article considers the implementation of communicative and pragmatic characteristics of interrogative sentences functioning in the text of a political speech. The author focuses on the analysis of the question and answer approach in the presentation of information, in which a thematic special question initiates a dialogue in a monologue discourse, and the response replicas are rhematized, forming theme-rheme sequences that not only create coherence of the text, but also involve the audience in developing discussion of a speaker with himself/herself. The poly-pragmatic nature of questions ensures the implementation of a multi-faceted plan of the politician: to attract, interest, convince audience, manipulating their minds by the means of a language.
