VERBAL LABELS EXPRESSING SOCIAL STATUS IN THE MODERN RUSSIAN AND CHINESE SOCIETY

Abstract. The article considers verbal labels in the Russian and Chinese languages as linguistic means expressing individual’s social status in the society. As it is known, national language represents national culture. Verbal labels refer to most vivid linguistic means nominating objects of reality, they have deep cultural connotations. Verbal labels are particularly interesting from the viewpoint of comparative analysis which helps to identify the peculiarities of a certain linguo-culture and, most important, its differences from other linguo-cultures. The paper examines the origin of popular verbal labels expressing individual’s social status in the modern Russian and Chinese society.
