REGIONAL LANGUAGE VARIABILITY IN THE BRITISH AND AMERICAN EDITIONS OF "HARRY POTTER"

Fraiman Vasilii Evgen'evich
Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia

Abstract. The article presents a part of the linguistic analysis of the British and American editions of two parts of "Harry Potter", published with an 8-year interval. In the light of the corpus studies of the English language of Britain and America a number of editorial language changes are considered in the American version. The analysis shows a significant reduction in lexical and grammatical substitutions in the edition of the later book, while spelling and some morphological substitutions are permanent.
