THE PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATION OF CULTURE-SPECIFIC BIBLICAL EXPRESSIONS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE INTO THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract. The purpose of the work is to consider the ways of conveying allusions in the translation of culture-specific biblical expressions. The research shows that biblical expressions that have retained their figurativeness are used as allusions to the Bible, and in translation the biblical expression of the English language is replaced with a similar biblical or phraseological expression of the Russian language and a biblical expression is added. As for biblical expressions that have lost their figurativeness, they acquire a different meaning and become hackneyed phrases. When they are translated, the method of descriptive translation is used.
