Abstract. The article considers the details and peculiarities of both translating and classifying English idioms and set expressions with the component "law" (закон) from a perspective of their structure, meaning, and compliance with Russian. Special attention is paid to the classification based on the type of translation, which promotes using idioms and set expressions correctly. The main methods used in our research are classification and comparative analysis, which is not random, because their using helps to understand the meaning of English idioms and collocations accurately and to avoid mistakes in their translating.
