THE POEM BY IVAN KARAMAZOV IN B. BLACHER’S INTERPRETATION (THE ORATORIO "THE GRAND INQUISITOR", 1943)

Abstract. The article is devoted to interpreting the chapter "The Grand Inquisitor" from the novel by F. M. Dostoyevsky "The Brothers Karamazov" by the language of another kind of art - music. The paper examines the oratorio of the same name written in fascist Germany in the midst of the Second World War by the German composer Boris Blacher, whose creative work is insufficiently investigated by domestic scientists (musicologists, literary critics). The author focuses equally on the composer’s personality and on the textual and musical components of his composition.
