BORROWED VOCABULARY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: SPANISH STRATUM

Abstract. The loanwords from other languages are an important source of vocabulary replenishment. The paper presents the results of studying the Spanish stratum of borrowed vocabulary in the English language. The author focuses on phase analysis of the backgrounds for the origin of hispanicisms in the English language, the sources and ways of their penetration into the language as directly from the Spanish language so as indirectly through the adstrats, identifying their role and place in the vocabulary, systematizing and classifying the loanwords.
