Abstract. Continuous communication on the Internet in a written form results in the necessity to observe the law of linguistic economy. The article is devoted to the relevant and poorly investigated theme - abbreviations which are used during communication in the German social networks. The paper aims to classify abbreviations found on the users’ pages, in their statuses and notes according to the number of components, the way of formation and thematic fullness.
