Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of creative reception of the Shakespearian artistic heritage by Virginia Wolf. The paper examines the specifics of writer’s attitude to the Shakespearian heritage, reasons for her to perceive a Renaissance genius in the first place as a poet. The author analyzes the functioning of Shakespearian discourse in the writer’s novels at the level of thematic, subject and compositional and stylistic associations. According to the researcher, the author-modernist perceives an image and creative activity of Shakespeare as a meta-text.
