Abstract. Phraseological unit is one of the means of expressing ethno-stereotype. The article examines the specifics of representing British auto-stereotype in the phraseological units containing toponyms. At the macro-level British auto-stereotype is represented positively, at the micro-level - basically negatively. By the example of the phraseological units representing characteristic of intelligence the author shows that toponyms in their structure localize the negative quality promoting the secondary "friend/foe" division.
