Abstract. The article provides an analysis of the poetical story by the Tatar Sufi poet Abul'manikh Kargalyi "On Spiritual Revival of the King of Basra". The plot of the story is most probably borrowed from the Hindi fiction created under the influence of the Chishti Brotherhood doctrine. The author came to such conclusion relying on the analysis of the key motives on which Kargaly’s work is based. Nevertheless, the poetical narration is characterized by national specificity, originality, a wide variety of Sufi images and symbols.
