THE STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC PRINCIPLE OF NEGATIVE SENTENCES CLASSIFICATION (TYPOLOGICAL ASPECT)

Abstract. In the article the topical problems of negative sentences classification in the languages of different structures are under study. The critical analysis of the traditional theory of "general" and "particular" negation is made; the issues of the position of the negative particle not / не in the sentence are touched. The author considers the more universal classification of negative constructions which is based on formally syntactic and semantic criteria and shows the results of its application to English and Russian.
