A FACE AND A MASK IN M. I. TSVETAEVA’S LYRIC POETRY

Abstract. The paper made an attempt to reveal the meaning and functions of a face and a mask in M. I. Tsvetaeva’s poetical world. The analysis allowed drawing the following conclusions: a mask in M. I. Tsvetaeva’s lyric poetry not always closes the real face, on the contrary, it enables to reveal the genuine, original one. Transforming the lyrical heroine, a mask represents an inseparable liaison with her wishes. A mask in M. Tsvetaeva’s poetry appears on the level of subject and image and performs the suggestive, meditative and nominative functions.
