ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE WORD ЙИЭРУУЧЭ "HUNTER" IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE TUNDRA YUKAGHIRS

Abstract. The article is devoted to the etymology of the noun йиэруучэ "hunter" in the language of the tundra Yukaghirs. The author identifies a common element with the words йиэлгэрэ "distant part of space located behind the point (area) familiar to the speaker", йиэркэрэ "distant, invisible, unfamiliar (to the speaker) part of something". This common element йиэл=, йиэр= has a generalized meaning, which can be represented by the words "distant, unfamiliar, invisible (to the speaker) area". The author concludes that the word йиэруучэ "hunter" consisting from the basis уу= "go" and the nominal affix чэ= can be literally translated as "somebody going into distant, unfamiliar area".
