Abstract. The author considers in the diachronic aspect the semantic links in the German vocabulary group, which is united by a common notion "learning and education". The investigated material clarifies the position of this group of vocabulary in the language system, and through separate lexical units shows the cultural and historical connection with the contemporary vocabulary, describing the development of the education system in the German-speaking region countries.
