Abstract. The article presents the comparative analysis of two editions of Mandelstam’s poem about St. Isaac’s Cathedral in the context of poly-variability problem, i.e. the typical coexistence of different versions of lyrical texts and motivic complexes in Mandelstam’s poetry and creative mind. The processing of the poem is considered in connection with the deep processes of creative self-determination of the poet. The author of the article suggests her own hypothesis explaining the changes made in the poem by Mandelstam.
