IMAGE OF LAKE IN DRAMA "EINSAME MENSCHEN" BY G. HAUPTMANN AND ITS EARLY RUSSIAN TRANSLATIONS

Abstract. The author considers the specificity of spatial background in the works of "new drama" by the example of a play "Einsame Menschen" ("Lonely People") by G. Hauptmann, pays particular attention to the image of the lake, as it is endowed with complex symbolic traits, becoming the heroes’ philosophical reflection indicator, and undertakes the attempt to determine the degree of the Russian translators penetration into the writer’s conception by means of lexical-semantic analysis of the early Russian translations of the drama "Lonely People".
