Abstract. The author suggests the analysis of some aspects of the relationship between the intelligentsia of Russia and France after 1917 – foreign writers’ understanding of political, ethical and aesthetic changes that predetermined the movement of culture in the USSR; considers the questions occurred due to the fact that the repressive methods of culture "management" were not appropriate to the very notion of "socialist country", and as a starting point of the analysis takes the material from the exhibition "Writers and Intellectuals of Russia and France 1917-1991".
