GENRE IDENTITY OF N. V. GOGOL’S POEM "DEAD SOULS" ORIGINAL IN GERMAN TRANSLATION OF THE END OF THE XIX th – THE XX th CENTURY

Abstract. The author reveals the features of N. V. Gogol’s poem "Dead Souls" translation reception in Germany at the level of understanding of genre identity of the whole work and the inserted short story "The Tale of Captain Kopeikin", presents the results of the comparative-contrast analysis of twelve representative German translations of the end of the XIX th – the XX th century, which allow revealing the most appropriate translation versions in terms of literary and aesthetic impact, and conducts the analysis from the perspective of correlation between "variant" and "invariant" of the work considered in the context of cultures dialogue.
