FEATURES OF ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN SLANG FUNCTIONING IN FICTION

Abstract. The author analyzes the English and Russian slang functions by the example of works "The Catcher in the Rye" by D. Salinger and "Russian-Speaking" by D. Gutsko, as a result of the research reveals that the English and Russian languages slangisms perform the same functions: expressive, emotional-evaluative, identification, esoteric, world outlook, communicative, cognitive, nominative, time-saving; and concludes that the dominant function is identification, contributing to the recognition of native among foreigners, while others, no less important – expressive and emotional-evaluative, allow more accurately and vividly expressing characters’ thoughts and feelings.
