ON COGNITIVE-PRAGMATIC COMPONENTS OF ADVERBIAL GROUP

Abstract. The article considers the features of adverbial modification by adverbs ending in -ly, which conveys subject-oriented evaluation. The main factor determining the possibility of such modification and orientation is the semantic combination of an adjective that forms a denominative adverb with a subject. The analysis of the adverbial modification mechanism shows that there are some similarities to the mechanism of transferred epithet. In addition, the author stresses that in the process of modification the so-called "adverbs of manner" convey the qualities and properties of the subject, so the term "adverbs of manner" is not fully conveys the diversity of a modification process by adverbs ending in -ly.
