FEATURES OF LANGUAGE SITUATION WITHIN BRITISH COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES IN POSTCOLONIAL PERIOD

Abstract. The author deals with the question of language situation within the countries - the former colonies of Great Britain, which are among the countries of the British Commonwealth, describes language situation in these countries as unbalanced bilingualism and illustrates it by the example of India, where there are two official languages - English and Hindi, and shows that the English language in postcolonial India is currently experiencing the formation of Indian English from a number of New Englishes.
