Abstract. In the article the role of staff in innovative activity is studied. Special attention is paid to the consideration of innovative activity in the organization. The interconnection of environmental factors, which has an impact on staff, is analyzed and ascertained. The principles of personnel development in the conditions of innovations are stated, the definitions of the concepts "knowledge", "skills", "competence" are given. The author grounds the idea about the necessity of a new function of knowledge management and traces connection between staff competences and the final result of the organization work.
