Essential and content-related characteristics of the axiological approach to intercultural competence formation among foreign students (theoretical foundations)

Abstract. The study aims to determine the key characteristics of the axiological approach to intercultural competence formation among foreign students: strategy, goal, functions, principles. The paper clarifies the definitional features of the notion of “value dominants”, reveals their content in relation to the target audience: value dominants of foreign students’ intercultural behavior in the multicultural space of the university. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in determining the essential and content-related characteristics of the axiological approach in teaching intercultural communication to foreign students in higher education. As a result, it is stated that the process of teaching intercultural interaction to foreign students in the multinational environment of the university should be aimed at the formation of such value dominants as tolerance, empathy, emotional maturity.
