Transition of qualitative semantics into quantitative meaning in the Kabardian language (an introduction to the subject)

Abstract. The aim of the study is to determine ethnospecific features in the representation of quantitative semantics in the Kabardian language based on the analysis of language units with qualitative characteristics. The study is novel in that it is the first to systematise the lexical, affixal means employed in the transition of qualitative semantics to quantitative meaning in the Kabardian language and analyse ethnospecific lexical units with qualitative and quantitative semantics. The paper analyses the lexical means employed in the transition of qualitative semantics into quantitative meaning, traces the ethnospecific features of the functioning of the main (typical) set expressions with qualitative and quantitative semantics, identifies the main word-formation means of lexemes with qualitative and quantitative semantics in the Kabardian language. The results showed that in the Kabardian language, the measure of a trait (quality) is intensified through an analytical and affixal way and a certain gradation of the manifestation of the trait is built. In addition, language units with evaluative, qualitative semantics with an implicit meaning of quantification were found in the Kabardian language.
