Abstract. The research aims to substantiate that “The Ape Novel” (Şebek Romanı, 2004) by the famous modern Turkish writer A. Şasa belongs to the genre of dystopia, which is new for the national literature, from the perspective of poetological features. The paper analyses the plot-compositional features of the novel with an emphasis on its system of images and chronotope. It is being proved that the highly scientific and technological civilisation of the future Earth is spiritless. Its inhabitants are animals and their deeds are devoid of morality and love for their kind. Therefore, the images of great apes come to the fore in the novel, among which the action develops in the work. The characters are trying to preserve human qualities in themselves, in which belief in God is of great help. Man’s attempt to remain faithful to moral principles in a closed geographical space is one of the typological properties of a dystopian novel. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that A. Şasa’s creative work, considered in this aspect, for the first time becomes the object of analysis in Turkological literary studies in Russia. As a result, it has been proved that the poetics of A. Şasa’s novel fits into the fantastic genre of dystopia.
