THE PRIMITIVIZATION AS INTERMEDIAL STRATEGY: V. G. KOROLENKO’S STORY "THE MURMURING FOREST" IN THE LIGHT OF ITS INTERPRETATION BY AN OPERA LIBRETTIST

Abstract. The paper focuses on the processes that the prose text, the source of the opera, faces. By the example of the interpretation of V. G. Korolenko’s story "The Murmuring Forest" by the composer V. I. Rebikov and the librettist S. Plaksin the author examines such phenomenon as the primitivization of the original text, reveals its mechanisms and explains the reasons for its appearance not only by the traditional attitude to the libretto as "the low" genre, but also by the deliberate use of this strategy by the authors-interpreters.
