Abstract. The reviewed monograph by A. I. Demchenko is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the composer Alfred Schnittke. The author summarizes many years of scientific research on the work and style of this leader of world musical art. The study focuses on the historical, social, philosophical, and personal factors that shaped the composer’s path in music.
