Abstract. The article aims to shed light on specific nature of religion as one of stable foundations for social reality formation, which is manifested in adoption of common criteria for an individual’s social identification in response to constant variability of social norms. Scientific novelty of the study lies in providing an insight into social constructivism through the lens of identifying specific features of religion in social reality with values undergoing transformation and in the range of problems related to an individual’s identity. The results have shown that religion is a stable social institution that can ensure continuity of moral values and cultural traditions in the changing social reality. The fact that certain social institutions are stable makes it possible to actualise in a new capacity the issue of accelerating social dynamics in the XXI century.
