Abstract. The purpose of the research is to determine the main areas of the activities undertaken by the Soviet historians during the Great Patriotic War. The article considers research activities, agitation and propaganda work, participation in activities of state and public organisations in the context of social conditions of the Great Patriotic War. It is shown that the Soviet historians’ activities during the Great Patriotic War were not limited to the purely academic kind. They were strongly involved in information war against fascism by means of history. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in taking a comprehensive approach to studying the Soviet historians’ activities during the Great Patriotic War in the context of social development of that time. As a result, the researchers have identified the main areas of the activities undertaken by the Soviet historians during the Great Patriotic War and their contribution to victory over fascism.
