Creationism Controversy in Modern Educational Literature: Methodological Aspects

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to prove that the idea of teaching creationism and evolutionism as "equally important scientific theories" is invalid. The article sums up the dispute between supporters and opponents of this idea: it is centred on the issue of validity/invalidity of the scientific premises underlying the theory of evolution. Scientific novelty of the study lies in carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the arguments put forward by the parties to the dispute. As a result, it is shown that this kind of dispute, presented in a number of school and university textbooks, often implements the principle of double standards: the concept of evolutionism is severely criticised, while the concept of creationism is merely posited on the basis of the Biblical scripture.
