Theme of the East in the Azerbaijani Artists’ Creative Work (in the 1950-1980s)

Abstract. The article deals with the theme of the East in the Azerbaijani artists’ creative work in the 1950-1980s. This is a fairly widely occurring theme in Azerbaijan visual arts in the considered period. Its main areas are captured in various works that have become an object of this study. The paper aims to shed light on the Eastern themes, to discover motifs of multiculturalism in the Azerbaijani artists’ creative work. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the Eastern themes in the Azerbaijani artists’ creative work are for the first time considered from the viewpoint of the modernity, as well as taking into account their contribution to the national culture development. As a result, the researcher has identified characteristic stylistic, plot and colouristic features of the Eastern themes in the Azerbaijani artists’ creative work.
