Euthanasia Tourism: Ethical Aspects of Legal Termination of Life

Abstract. The paper aims to trace history of attitudes towards euthanasia in different countries. The article analyses causes of changes in attitudes in favour of legalization of this illegal practice. Scientific originality of the research involves analysing prerequisites for formation of euthanasia tourism as a modern type of medical tourism; this problem has not been previously investigated in studies on history of medicine, bioethics, medical ethics. The research findings are as follows: the author proves that, in spite of a wide range of pharmacological and technological methods to prolong a dying patient’s life and to minimize psychical and physical suffering, euthanasia tourism is a promising trend in medical tourism.
