Modern Multiethnic States’ Activity to Preserve and Revitalize Indigenous Languages (by the Example of Canada and Russia)

Abstract. The paper reveals forms and methods of multiethnic states’ activity to preserve the indigenous peoples’ vanishing languages. By the example of Canada and Russia, the article analyses cooperation of governmental institutions, civil society institutions and universities to preserve linguistic diversity. Scientific originality of the study involves analysing modern multiethnic states’ activities to preserve vanishing languages. As a result, it is proved that preserving indigenous languages remains a relevant problem which requires cooperation of the state and society, and using the potential of digital technologies under the conditions of low functionality of indigenous languages is a promising trend of activity to revitalize vanishing languages.
