Formation and Development of Museum Space in Tatarstan

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal specificity of museum space development in Tatarstan in recent decades. The author describes history of republican museums from the moment of their origin (Kazan province, the beginning of the XIX century), identifies the key trends, problems and prospects. Scientific originality of the study involves a systemic analysis of the problem of forming large-scale museum space as a factor of the region stable development. The research findings are as follows: the author emphasizes the growing role of museums under the modern conditions, justifies the necessity to provide multi-level support to museums as cultural centres promoting regional education, science and tourism.
