Makariev Chest Craft (the Second Half of the 19th - the First Quarter of the 20th Century). Materials for the History

Abstract. The aim of this paper is a general description of the chest centre that existed in Makariev (Nizhny Novgorod province). The review of the main literature is given for the first time, the specific works of art are analysed and the role of Makariev in the history of Russian chest craft is determined. The scientific originality of this paper lies in the creation of a whole picture of the chest craft development in Makariev. It is concluded that Makariev was one of the largest chest centres in Russia in the second half of the XIX - the first quarter of the XX century.
