Abstract. The research objectives are as follows: to identify the pianist’s role and to determine their performative and ensemble tasks in S. V. Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano. The composition dramaturgy is dynamic: from opposition of lyrical and dramatic elements in the first part towards harmonious synthesis of these elements in the final part. The pianist’s rehearsal training includes the work on sound, intonation, accents. The sonata concert nature allows them to achieve a vibrant sound, to separate or combine instrumental parts. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the author for the first time analyzes the pianist’s performance of S. V. Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano. As a result, it is shown that the piano is a full-fledged ensemble member, and the sonata figurative sphere determines the specificity of the piano performing.
