Training Activities of the Chita State Pedagogical Institute in the Second Half of the 1940s

Abstract. The study aims to analyse data reflecting the training activities of the Chita State Pedagogical Institute (ChSPI) in the second half of the 1940s. The paper shows the Institute’s efforts to form the teaching staff, to enroll students, to implement the curriculum in the post-war years. Scientific novelty of the study lies both in a comprehensive analysis of the available published material on the Institute’s activities and in the introduction of previously unpublished archival data into scientific use. As a result, the authors have concluded that in the post-war years, the Institute faced several problems related to the staffing of teaching personnel, the number of which was insufficient in various disciplines. There was a shortage of trained professionals able to occupy the positions of department heads, deans as well as the position of the director of studies. Despite the existing difficulties, the Pedagogical Institute managed the academic workload, trained certified specialists and enrolled students.
