Abstract. The aim of the research is to reveal the applied significance of L. Wittgenstein’s philosophical ideas for religious education. The interpretation of Wittgenstein’s reflections on the preconditions of adherence to religious faith and its basis, the connection between religious beliefs and people’s everyday life, the nature of religious truth and the existence of God is presented. The scientific originality of the research consists in defining several didactic principles of teaching religion, based on Wittgenstein’s arguments. As a result, it has been revealed that Wittgenstein’s reflections on religion are directly related to the problem of teaching religion at school and can have a positive influence on the theory and practice of spiritual and moral education.
